Quick answer

Type any Northern Virginia address. The radar sweeps the 1 mile around it and lights up every house and townhouse sold there in the last 6, 12 or 24 months, from 40,295 Bright MLS closed sales1. Then you see how many, the median price of the houses and of the townhouses, the lowest to the highest price, and the latest sales with their size and month. Each sale sits at a spot rounded to about a block, without its address.

How to read it

Four things the radar tells you.

  1. How busy the mile isThe count says how many homes changed hands around the address. Switch between 6, 12 and 24 months to see if it is picking up or slowing down.
  2. The middle priceThe gold median is the middle sale: half sold for more, half for less. Houses and townhouses get their own, since one would pull the other off.
  3. How closeThe rings mark ¼, ½, ¾ and 1 mile. Sales inside the first ring are the closest thing to your street.
  4. What soldTap a dot or a sale in the list for its price, size, bedrooms and month. A number in a dot means more than one sale at that spot.

Questions

What people ask about the sold radar.

What does the sold radar show?

Type any Northern Virginia address, or tap Use my location, and the radar shows every house and townhouse that sold within 1 mile of it in the last 6, 12 or 24 months: how many, the median price of the houses and of the townhouses, the lowest and highest price, when they closed, how close they are, and the latest sales with their price, size, bedrooms and year built. Tap a dot for the sales at that spot.

Where do the sales come from?

From Bright MLS, the listing service agents in Northern Virginia use: 40,295 closed sales of houses and townhouses (condos and co-ops left out) in Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Arlington and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park, October 24, 2024 to October 24, 2026, pulled by Ahmed Makkiyah. Homes sold without the MLS, such as some builder and family sales, are not in it.

Why are there no addresses?

The radar is for a quick look at what is selling around a home, so it shows each sale at a spot rounded to about a block, with its price and size but not its address. Want the exact sales around a home, with addresses and photos? Text Ahmed the address and he will send them.

Is the median price what my home is worth?

No. The median is the middle price of the homes sold nearby: half sold for more, half for less. Size, age, condition and the street move a home's price. For a value range for one home, use What is my home worth? on this site, or ask Ahmed for a full comparison.

Why does a home near the edge sometimes count in or out?

Each sale sits at its rounded spot, up to about 100 meters (330 feet) from the house. A home right at the 1-mile line can land just inside or just outside the circle.

Is the address saved or sent anywhere?

The typed address is looked up in Virginia's own address list (VGIN) to place it on the map, as on the other tools on this site. The radar then asks this site's server for the sales around that spot, without the address. Your phone's location is used only for the scan and is not kept. Each connection can scan 20 places a day.
