Burke is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County with one zip code, 22015. Single-family means a detached house with at least three bedrooms and two full baths; townhouse means end-of-row and interior-row homes; homes legally owned as condos (including condo-style townhouses) are left out of both. Source: Bright MLS, closed sales January 1 to October 2, 2026, Postal City = Burke, pulled by Ahmed Makkiyah on October 2, 2026.
Why people choose Burke
The VRE, Lake Braddock and Robinson, and HOA pools.
Many sales on VA loans; the VRE from Burke Centre; a short drive to George Mason and Fort Belvoir; and a community pool and a trail to school.
Buyers choose Burke over Annandale for a newer house, an HOA pool and an A-rated secondary school at the same $925,000 median, and over Fairfax for about $60,000 less. What they give up is the drive: downtown is 50 minutes or more by car, which is why the VRE matters. A townhouse gets you the same schools for a median $616,000.
Prices
What the $925,000 median buys: a 1970s or 80s colonial with a community pool.
Burke's cheapest single-family sale of 2026 was $600,000 and its most expensive $1,754,200, and 137 of the 184 houses sold under $1 million.
The typical Burke house is a colonial or split-foyer from the 1970s or 1980s on a modest lot in Burke Centre, around Lake Braddock or near Burke Lake, with an HOA, a pool and a path to the elementary school. Updated, it sells near the median. Needing work, it sells under $800,000 (27 sales), often for cash. Only 10 houses sold above $1.2 million, and none above $1.76 million: Burke is a tight price band.
Burke is almost half townhomes. 152 townhouses sold against 184 houses, at a median of $616,000, from $408,000 (the lowest sale) to $820,000 (the highest), in a median 6 days, and 53% went over asking.
At a median $450 a square foot, Burke houses cost about the same per foot as Fairfax ($451) and less than Annandale ($486), so the same $925,000 median buys a little more house than it does in Annandale. What you give up is the drive: Burke is outside the Beltway, about 50 minutes or more from downtown by car.

Bright MLS closed sales, January 1 to October 2, 2026 (City of Alexandria to October 3), except the Fairfax County row (September 2026 alone). The town rows are filtered to 3+ bedrooms and 2+ full baths and leave out homes legally owned as condos (including condo-style townhouses); the Fairfax County row has no size filter. Fairfax, Alexandria and Falls Church mean the Fairfax County addresses, not the independent cities, and Chantilly means its Fairfax County side. Arlington County, the neighbor to the east, is one row for the whole county (pulled October 3, same filters). The Cities of Fairfax, Falls Church and Alexandria are independent cities next to the county, shown under their own names. Oak Hill (20 sales) and Dunn Loring (12) are too small to chart.
Townhouse view: each place's median townhouse sale price and number of townhouse sales (end-of-row and interior-row townhouses, condo-owned homes left out), from the same Bright MLS searches as each place's own page, closed January 1 to October 2, 2026 (Arlington County and the City of Alexandria to October 3). A gray bar means fewer than 10 townhouses sold, too few to give a median. The Fairfax County, September row is left out of this view: there is no townhouse figure for that month alone.

A guide, not a price tag. The median is the middle sale: half the homes sold for more and half for less. It gives you a feel for prices here, not the price of any one home, and you'll always find homes above and below it, like the lowest and highest sales below.

Follow the money
One buyer in five used a VA loan. Cash went to the cheapest houses.
In 2026, 39 of 184 single-family buyers used a VA loan and 23 paid cash. Under $800,000, four houses in ten sold for cash; above $1.2 million, none did.
Share of single-family sales paid in cash, by price range, 2026
Under $800,000 41% (11 of 27); $800,000 to $1 million 8% (9 of 110); $1 to $1.2 million 8% (3 of 37); over $1.2 million 0% (0 of 10).
Under $800,000 the cash sales are most likely houses that need work. One cash sale closed at $758,851 on a $575,000 list price, probably a list-price error; it is kept in the count.
How 184 single-family purchases were paid for, 2026
184 sales: VA 39 · conventional 114 · cash 23 · FHA and other 8
Fort Belvoir is 20 to 30 minutes down the Fairfax County Parkway, and the VA share shows it: 39 buyers, one in five. Cash buyers paid a median of $815,000 against $936,100 financed and went under contract in a median 4 days against 6.
What that means if you need a loan: from $800,000 to $1.2 million, where most buyers shop, 135 of 147 sales were financed, so you are competing with other loans, many of them VA. Two thirds of houses went under contract within a week and 63% sold over asking, so the offer that wins is a full pre-approval, a short inspection window and an appraisal-gap plan you decided before the open house.
Townhomes: 14 of 152 sales were cash (9%), with a cash median of $561,000 against $617,500 financed; conventional 113, VA 14, FHA 7 and 4 other (2 marked other, 1 private loan and 1 cash sale with a property trade). Mixed cash-and-loan deals were counted as financed.
The interesting facts
The typical house sold over its asking price.
Four things in the 2026 numbers that set Burke apart.
Over asking is normal. The median Burke house sold for 101% of its list price, and 63% of buyers paid more than the seller asked. A house priced right gets offers the first weekend.
What sells. Many sales on VA loans, the VRE nearby, a short drive to George Mason and Fort Belvoir, and a community pool with Lake Braddock or Robinson for the same price as an Annandale house.
Rentals. Only 53 houses were rented all year, at a median $4,000 a month, and they leased in a median 11 days. Townhomes are the rental market: 96 leases at a median $2,873.
Rent or buy
Buying beats renting here, for houses and townhomes.
A single-family home rents for a median of $4,000 a month and sells for $925,000, a price-to-rent ratio of 19.3; a townhome rents for $2,873 and sells for $616,000, a ratio of 17.9.1
| Measure | Single-family | Townhome |
|---|---|---|
| Homes rented | 53 | 96 |
| Median monthly rent | $4,000 | $2,873 |
| Average monthly rent | $4,003 | $2,912 |
| Median rent per square foot | $2.11 | $2.17 |
| Median days to lease | 11 | 18 |
| Rent range, lowest to highest lease | $2,600 to $5,750 | $2,250 to $3,950 |
Gross yield is before the mortgage, tax, HOA, insurance and upkeep. Under 20, anyone who stays five years or more can usually expect buying to beat renting. Three townhome leases are left out of the range: a 360-square-foot studio, one that looks like a single room, and one that closed at 133% of its asking rent, likely a typo. None of them changes the median.

The houses
Burke Centre, Lake Braddock and the townhouse clusters.
Most of Burke was built from the late 1960s to the 1990s as planned communities with pools, paths and HOAs, which is why almost half of what sells here is a townhouse.
Burke Centre. A 1,700-acre planned community with 5,862 homes in five neighborhoods, the Commons, Landings, Oaks, Ponds and Woods: detached colonials, townhouse clusters and some condos, five outdoor pools and more than 30 miles of paths. Every home pays the Burke Centre Conservancy, roughly $260 to $320 a quarter, and many townhouse clusters add a fee of their own.
Lake Braddock. An association founded in 1969 with 1,298 homes, 417 houses and 881 townhouses, around a private 27-acre lake between Burke Road and Burke Lake Road, with two pools. Lake Braddock Secondary sits at its edge.
Royal Lake and Lakepointe. Just north, on the Fairfax side, Royal Lake is a 38-acre county lake in a 46-acre park with a trail around it. Lakepointe's 107 townhomes sit on the shore.
The townhomes. 152 sales at a median of $616,000, mostly 1970s to 1990s rows in Burke Centre, Lake Braddock and along Burke Road. Condo-owned homes are a separate, cheaper market and are not counted here.
What to check. The HOA and Conservancy resale package, which lists the dues, any special assessment and the rules on fences, sheds and paint; the age of the roof, windows and HVAC on a 1970s or 80s house; and, near the VRE line, how loud the trains are at the hour you would be home.

Schools
Lake Braddock or Robinson, two A-rated schools from grade 7 to 12.
22015 is split between two secondary schools, Lake Braddock for most of Burke and Robinson (IB) for much of Burke Centre through Terra Centre Elementary; the southeast edge near Rolling Valley goes to West Springfield High.3
Lake Braddock Secondary
Niche #9 in Fairfax County, US News #22 in Virginia. Grades 7 to 12, about 4,400 students and 32 AP courses. Fed by Cherry Run, White Oaks, Sangster, Kings Park and Kings Glen elementaries.

West Springfield High School
Niche #6 in the county, US News #12 in Virginia, 32 AP courses. Serves the southeast edge near Rolling Valley and Old Keene Mill Road, through Irving Middle.
Terra Centre Elementary
In the middle of Burke Centre. Built underground in 1980 for energy efficiency; its roof is a playing field.
Peace Islamic Center
On Old Keene Mill Road in Burke. Friday prayer is at 1 pm at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Sydenstricker Road. Masjid Noor on Pohick Road is about ten minutes away.
ICNVT and Mustafa Center
The Islamic Center of Northern Virginia on Shirley Gate Road and Mustafa Center in Annandale are each about fifteen minutes away, with weekend Islamic school.
George Mason University
Virginia's largest public university, 39,638 students in fall 2025, about 10 to 15 minutes from Burke Centre.
Al-Qalam Academy
On Commerce Street in Springfield, about fifteen minutes away: the nearest full-time Islamic school.
The January 2026 boundary changes did not move the Lake Braddock or Robinson secondary boundaries. Three open studies could touch Burke, with recommendations due by January 2027: the Keene Mill attendance island, which names White Oaks and Cardinal Forest elementaries; the middle and high school feeders for Rolling Valley Elementary; and crowding at West Springfield. A listing's school claim is not a guarantee. Check the exact address at the FCPS Boundary Locator, and ask Ahmed to confirm it before you offer.
Commute
The VRE to Union Station, the Parkway to Fort Belvoir.
Burke has no Metro, but it has two VRE stations on the Manassas Line, Burke Centre and Rolling Road. Burke Centre has 1,516 free parking spaces, and trains reach Union Station in about 51 to 57 minutes, on weekday rush-hour runs only.
| To | Drive | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown DC | 50 to 75 min | The Parkway to I-95 and I-395, or the VRE |
| Pentagon | 35 to 50 min | I-95 and I-395, Express Lanes if you carpool |
| Tysons | 30 to 45 min | Route 123, or the Beltway north |
| Fort Belvoir | 20 to 30 min | The Fairfax County Parkway south |
| Reagan National | 35 to 50 min | I-95 and I-395, or the George Washington Parkway |
Franconia-Springfield, the end of the Blue Line, is 15 to 20 minutes by car and $4.95 a day to park; Vienna on the Orange Line is 20 to 25. The 95 and 395 Express Lanes are free for carpools of three with an E-ZPass Flex, and the Rolling Valley lot on Old Keene Mill Road has a slug line (a free casual carpool pickup line), the free way in. The Springfield garage slug lines are closed for maintenance until February 2027.5 Inside Burke, Burke Centre Parkway, Burke Road and Old Keene Mill Road back up at rush hour, so the distance to the station or the Parkway matters. Ahmed will do the 7:45 drive with you before you offer.
Daily life
Burke Lake, 30 miles of paths, and H Mart with a halal counter.
Outdoors. Burke Lake Park, on Burke's southwest edge, has a 218-acre lake with a 4.7-mile loop trail, golf, a miniature train, a carousel and boat rentals. Burke Centre's paths run more than 30 miles, and Lake Braddock and Royal Lake are a walk from many front doors.
Halal and Middle Eastern. H Mart on Burke Road has a halal meat section. Sultan Gourmet, a Turkish grocery on Warwick Avenue, and Halal Bazar and Taste of the Middle East, with Iraqi products, on Lee Highway in Fairfax are about fifteen minutes away. Peace Islamic Center is in Burke itself.
Hospitals and shopping. Inova Fairfax Hospital, the region's Level I trauma center, is 20 to 25 minutes away, and the Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center at Fort Belvoir about the same. Springfield Town Center is fifteen minutes.
Taxes.4 Burke is unincorporated Fairfax County, so there is no town tax: the 2026 rate is $1.12 per $100 of assessed value plus $0.0335 in county fees, about $1.15 all in, roughly $10,700 a year on a $925,000 house, before HOA dues. The car tax is $4.57 per $100 of each vehicle's value, and veterans rated 100% permanently and totally disabled pay no real estate tax on their home.

Up to five picks within about fifteen minutes of Burke in each cuisine, the one doing best at the top, and halal marked. Burke itself has few Middle Eastern kitchens, so most of the list is in Fairfax City, Kings Park West and Springfield.7
Closed, so not listed: Khan's Halal on Old Burke Lake Road shows as closed on Yelp since August 2026; Lebanese Bistro and Aladdin's Eatery at Burke Town Plaza, Kabul Kabob in Springfield and Shawarma Guys in Kingstowne have also closed. Further out but worth the drive: Raouche Cafe in Falls Church for Lebanese, and Kolbeh at Fair Oaks for Turkish. Rankings weigh current Yelp ratings by review count, critics' lists and whether the place is busy; the halal note comes from Zabihah or the restaurant itself, and "ask about halal" means it could not be confirmed.
